One daughter said the machine no longer works. When the blender stops automatically, you have a delicious frozen drink. Then the blender starts and the ice shaving stops in a few seconds. The machine shaves ice, which falls into the blender to join the mix and the liquor. Set the controls for the automatic feature and engage the momentary contact toggle switch. Put ice cubes into the clear basket at the top of the machine. To use the machine, pour drink mix and liquor into the blender. The other is in the base of the machine and drives the blender. One is in the upper part of the machine and is for shaving ice. Those who purchase this unit will not be disappointed if they're looking for a solid, no frills, high quality and reliable mixing unit. And yes, it beats the heck out of a regular blender. The machine has two motors. It feels almost fit to be a commercial unit, but it's very visually appealing and will make a nice counter ornament when not in use. Overall, it's a nice and well made mixer. I personally like how heavy and well made the unit is along with the map-ish design in the material surrounding where the jug goes. There's a nice stowaway compartment for the power cord as well. The included booklets are pretty helpful for usage. You also get options for ice shaving and mixing to fine tune your frozen concoctions. The mixer and ice shaver motors are intensely powerful, enough to briefly dim the lights in the room. As far as when you do, it's a great tool. Due to the price, it would be wise to NOT buy one if you don't plan on using it much or entertaining. As you know, this quality comes at quite a price. This DM2000 was a gift, we own the previous model and another DM2000. The visual appeal is excellent and interesting right out of the box. First off, this is a top quality appliance. Nice item You don't know until you try it. Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned We had a party this weekend and it was a real hit. Even if this one breaks, I would buy another just because we enjoy it so much. It does and excellent job of making drinks, perfect drinks, and while my wife thought my purchase was a bit questionable at first, she loves it now. The pitcher dribbles badly and then the melted stuff runs into the screw on base and drips out each time you pour. The pitcher top d oesn't cover the pour spout perfectly and a bit comes out. It isn't removable for cleaning so you have to work at it. When blending, stuff splatters into the ice funnel over the pitcher and that piece has sharp angles and crevices. After minimal use, the switch for adding ice or blending is already having contact issues causing the motor to pulse sporadically rather than run. It does not and feels cheap but it is heavy so perhaps they couldn't add much more metal without making it too heavy. I thought for that much it should look like something that will last a generation or more. I was expecting a higher build quality as in materials used. The Fiji is the top of the line single pitcher margaritaville and costs a pretty penny. it's not a quick and easy get out the blender type of machine. If you've got the space and can find an easily accessible home, it's a great addition. Don't have to worry about getting the last of the ice out after a party, let it melt into the container. Well, these guys are smart and put a water drain and container to catch the runoff built into the back of the blender. And you will be wondering what happens to the water from the ice up top as it melt s. Nothing happens with it off and remembering other blenders have to have the jar seated properly before it will run, I tried to "lock" it down and fiddle with everything else until I found the switch. The on-off button is a little hard to find. Easy idea - shave the ice in the machine, spoon out into cups and use unfrozen push-up type freezer pops to flavor. Also, we figured out that we can now make sno-cones for the kids. But its a lot of fun and delivers on the promise - great frozen drinks. Make no mistake, it's big and tall and will not fit under standard counter top/cabinet configurations.
